Post OSCAR 79: The Good (Morricone), the Bad (O’Toole) and The Departed

28 februarie 2007
mi-am scris articolul pt. Sapte Seri,
se numeşte The Good (Morricone), the Bad (O’Toole) and The Departedşi am scris acolo impresiile.

There is no one like him". Right on, Ben!
Scorsese Grateful for Belated Oscar Recognition
Director Martin Scorsese is glad he didn't receive an Academy Award for directing earlier in his career, because it might have changed the way he made movies. Scorsese had received six nominations for directing and eight nominations overall in his 40-year career, before winning for The Departed on Sunday night. He explains, "I've just been used to not winning. It's about getting the pictures made. But when you win something, you appreciate it." After making The Aviator, Scorsese says he decided, "To just relax and make the best film we can." He adds, "Good thing I didn't get (the Oscar) before, because maybe it would have changed the kind of movies I would have made. I don't know if I was strong enough. I'm glad it's taken this long. It's been worth it."
Smoking-no smoking
The Green Room at the Kodak, in reality a converted hallway, is the celebrities' only sanctuary away from the cackle of walkie-talkies and ulcerated producers. It's basically a hotel lobby with the finest food and drink, but more importantly, for the celebrity smokers, it leads out to the Kodak's smoking section. Even Oscar-winners have to step outside to light up.
At the old Shrine Auditorium, the smokers' patio was the hot spot, a power hub of mutual admiration: "You're so much more talented than I am." "No, you are!" But last year numbers were way down in the smoking area at the Kodak, perhaps because it is just a corner of the dingy loading dock area, fenced off with potted shrubs.
LA Times columnist Steve Pond took a peek last year and found a solitary Jack Nicholson exhaling into the night air. "Lonely out here, boys," he said. "There are only three cigarette butts in this ashtray, and two of them are mine."
